Proceeds will benefit the Anne Kibrick Leadership Fund at UMass Boston, which fosters continued excellence in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences by supporting faculty initiatives to create, enhance, or expand leadership opportunities. When the fund reaches the minimum threshold to establish a professorship (presently $1 million), the fund will be converted to the Anne Kibrick Endowed Professorship in Leadership, which will support a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding success as a healthcare leader.

ANNE KARLON KIBRICK
Anne K. Kibrick is a champion of nursing education, a strong supporter of public higher education, and an academic entrepreneur who has made outstanding contributions to the field of nursing.
Her dedication to nursing led her to establish a baccalaureate nursing program at the University of Massachusetts Boston at a time when such programs were available only in-state at private universities. She believed that nurses should be provided a generalist foundation, and she understood how to adapt to the academic needs of nursing students. Her efforts allowed students of limited financial means to both train for a nursing career and compete with their peers.
Anne received an RN at Worcester Hahnemann Hospital in 1941, a BS at Boston University in 1945, and an EdD at Harvard University in 1948. St. Joseph's College in Maine awarded her an honorary doctor of humane letters in 1973. As an educator, she worked at several institutions, among them Cushing Hospital, Simmons College, Boston University, and Boston College. She served as founding director of the nursing schools of both Boston State College (1974-1982) and UMass Boston (1982-1985), where she was officially confirmed as dean in 1985.
She retired from UMass Boston in 1991 and became a professor emeritus of the university in 1993. In 2000, she established the Anne Kibrick Graduate Nursing Award at UMass Boston, which is presented at the annual meeting of the Theta Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society; its purpose is to recognize and reward exemplary scholarly and/or scientific achievement of PhD candidates. At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Hadassah School of Nursing, she was involved in the effort to develop a baccalaureate nursing program.
Anne was a consultant for Peace Corps projects in Kenya and Jamaica and for the delivery of health services in Russia. She was president of the National League for Nursing from 1971 to 1973, and in 2006 she received the prestigious Living Legends in Massachusetts Nursing Award from the Massachusetts American Nurses Association.
