AN OPPORTUNITY TO HONOR YOUR COLLEAGUES

American Nurses Association Massachusetts Awards open to All Nurses

ANA Massachusetts Awards honor the remarkable, but often unrecognized work of Massachusetts members. You probably work with or know nurse colleagues whose commitment to nursing and to patient care is exemplary. Yet in the rush of today's world, there is often little time to acknowledge them and their professional contributions.

You work with or know nurse colleagues whose commitment to nursing and to patient care is exemplary. Yet in the rush of today’s world, there is often little time to acknowledge them and their professional contributions. ANA Massachusetts Awards provide you the opportunity to honor their remarkable, but often unrecognized practice.

ANA Massachusetts Awards are not restricted to ANA Massachusetts members. Nominees can be a member of ANA Massachusetts or a non ANA Massachusetts member who is nominated by a member of ANA Massachusetts. These awards can be peer or self nominated.

ANA Massachusetts has established several awards that provide you the opportunity to recognize those nurses who have made a difference at the bedside, in the classroom, and in the practice of nursing.

The process of nomination is easy:

Complete the application and submit by the deadline.

Nominations must be made by an ANA Massachusetts members.

The award recipients will be invited to the ANA Massachusetts Awards Dinner Ceremony in early spring.  


Living Legends in Massachusetts Nursing Award
This award is to recognize a nurse who has made significant lifetime contributions to the profession of nursing on a state (Massachusetts), national or international level. Two-to-three Living Nursing Legends Awards are presented each year at the ANA Massachusetts Awards Dinner Ceremony. Candidates should be nominated by a colleague. Candidates should be a current member or have been a past member of MNA when it served as the American Nurses Association (ANA) state affiliate. Candidates should have made significant contributions to the profession of nursing on a state, national or international level. Candidates are nurses whose long standing contributions over the course of their careers will serve as an inspiration to other nurses. Candidates have exhibited creativity and innovation in his/her practice and blazed trails for other nurses to follow. Candidates cannot have been the recipient of an ANA Massachusetts award or scholarship in the previous year.

Excellence in Nursing Practice Award:
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Excellence in Nursing Practice Award is for a registered nurse who demonstrates excellence in clinical practice. The nominee for this award may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague.  ANA Massachusetts membership is not required for this award but the nominator must be an ANA Massachusetts member. 
Application deadline: November 15.

Excellence in Nursing Education Award:
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Excellence in Nursing Education Award is for a nurse educator who demonstrates excellence in nursing education. The candidate for this award may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague. ANA Massachusetts membership is not required for this award but the nominator must be an ANA Massachusetts member.
Application deadline: November 15.

Excellence in Nursing Research Award:
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Excellence in Nursing Research Award is for a registered nurse who demonstrates excellence in his/her nursing research. The nominee for this award may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague. ANA Massachusetts membership is not required for this award but the nominator must be an ANA Massachusetts member.

Mary A. Manning Nurse Mentoring Award:
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Mary A. Manning Mentoring Award was established by ANA  Massachusetts member and past president Karen Daley to support and encourage mentoring activities. This monetary award in the amount of $500 is given annually to a nurse who exemplifies the ideal image of a mentor and has established a record of consistent outreach to nurses in practice or in the pursuit of advanced education. The ideal candidate should have a record of achievement in offering guidance to and fostering development among nursing professionals over a number of years. Nominees may also include individuals who have contributed to support or development of mentoring programs within their organization, institution or practice community. ANA Massachusetts membership is not required for this award but the nominator must be an ANA Massachusetts member.
Amount of Award: $500

Loyal Service Award:
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Loyal Service Award is for a member who demonstrates loyal and dedicated service to the association. The candidate for this award may be self-nominates or be nominated by a colleague. Must be an ANA Massachusetts member for at least 1 year (12 months).  Award recipients are asked to serve on the selection committee for the next year’s awards.

Community Service Award (Our newest award!)
The American Nurses Association Massachusetts Community Service Award is for a registered nurse whose community service has a positive impact on the citizens of Massachusetts.
ANA Massachusetts membership is not required for this award but the nominator must be an ANA Massachusetts member.

Ruth Lang Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship:
The Ruth Lang Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship was established by the Fitzgerald family in memory of Ruth Lang Fitzgerald, a founding member of MARN (now ANA Massachusetts) and a long time member of the American Nurses Association, who passed away in January 2005. The scholarship had been earmarked for academic scholarship only but has been changed.
Now this scholarship is to be given to an ANA Massachusetts member to pursue an area of interest or special project that will be beneficial to the member and/or the Association. The scholarship may be used to attend an educational conference, the Annual ANA Convention or some other educational activity. It may also be used for participation in a humanitarian aide project.

Arthur L. Davis Publishing Agency Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded yearly to an ANA Massachusetts member to pursue a further degree in nursing or for a child or significant other of an ANA Massachusetts member who has been accepted into a nursing education program.
Amount of Award: $1000
Application deadline: March 15.
