President's Message October 2020

Dear Colleagues,

I truly hope you are well, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Despite the ongoing challenges, I hope your summer months were enjoyable and you took some time to relax and recharge. The fall is upon us and although there are still many uncertainties, our nurses and healthcare system remains strong and resilient. I would like to give our members an update on what ANA Massachusetts has been working on.

On September 2nd, I, along with three ANAMASS members, held the first in a new webinar series “Commonwealth Conversations” with Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. Governor Baker answered questions submitted by ANAMASS members related to procuring and distributing PPE, expanded scope of practice for APRN’s, concerns and funding for long term care facilities, systemic racism and health equity issues, and plans for a fall surge of COVID-19. Governor Baker was heartfelt in his acknowledgement of the incredible work of nurses in the Commonwealth and shared his deepest appreciation for all of our heroic efforts.

The recorded version of the Zoom is available for viewing click here for the recording.

I am beyond proud to announce that the Foundation for Nursing Advancement in Massachusetts, Inc. (FNAMA), a 501c3 charitable organization is operational. Our mission is to advance the nursing profession through philanthropic activities that promote scholarship, nursing research and innovation. Our vision is a healthy Commonwealth through the power of nursing. We are incredibly grateful to founding Board members and Past Presidents, Gino Chisari, Tara Tehan, Barbara Blakeney and Donna Glynn to their commitment over the last year to seeing this goal of ANAMASS become a reality.
