ANA is committed to helping nurses live their healthiest lives.  In 2017, our yearly theme will be devoted to improving the health of nurses and we will be launching the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ Grand Challenge.  However, there is no need to wait until next year to do something good for our health!

ANA started a cross-functional, collaborative work team to define member engagement and identify better ways to provide member value.  One of the goals of this team was to establish a quick win for engagement.  This was defined as something that had a low degree of difficulty, inexpensive implementation, targeted impact, and offered early success.  The quick win chosen was an initiative called #Fitnursefriday.  #Fitnursefriday is a focused, social media based initiative that has started to engage nurses on improving their health.  Many  nurses are familiar with this program and participate through their social media channels.  Since its launch in October 2015, #Fitnursefriday has been a major success reaching more than 1.6 million people on Facebook and Twitter!

To build off the success of #Fitnursefriday, ANA is piloting its first annual #Fitnursefriday5K#Fitnursefriday5K is a virtual social media event that is designed to encourage nurses to participate in local 5Ks.  It links nurses around the country in a friendly competition to see who can inspire the greatest number of RNs to get out and exercise.  The kick-off event of #Fitnursefriday5K is Thanksgiving weekend (Nov 24-27).  By leveraging participation in the popular “Turkey Trots” going on that weekend in many cities, as well as encouraging RNs to go run their own 5K, #Fitnursefriday5K will provide a platform for fitness and fun.  ANA will develop a nationwide reporting tool that will allow individual nurses (both members and non-members) to easily record their 5K participation, and then aggregate the state results.

We encourage members, colleagues and friends to participate.

Check out our #FitNurseFriday5K landing page to see complete details and registration information.  We are looking forward to your participation in this event as we continue to get the Nation’s nurses healthy!
