Apply Now! ANA Moral Resilience Professional Issues Panel

American Nurses Association (ANA) is issuing a Call for Applications for the Moral Resilience Professional Issues Panel. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2016.

This panel will guide the development of policy and resources relating to moral resilience in nursing. The goal of strengthening moral resilience is to address the phenomena of moral distress. Moral distress occurs when nurses know what is morally the right thing to do, but institutional, procedural, or social constraints make doing the right thing nearly impossible.

The Steering Committee will consist of up to 15 members and will conduct deliberations via virtual meetings beginning in February 2017. All applicants not selected for the Steering Committee will have the opportunity to serve on the associated Advisory Committee.

ANA is particularly interested in nominees who meet the following criteria:

  • Practicing registered nurses who have experienced feelings of moral distress within the past 12 months
  • Registered nurses from across the continuum of care to include long-term care, home health, acute care, and ambulatory care
  • Registered nurses who have served on institutional ethics committees or have knowledge of system-level strategies to address ethical issues in patient care
  • Nurse researchers with expertise related to moral distress and moral resilience

Electronic applications for the Moral Resilience Professional Issues Panel will be accepted from October 31 through December 1, 2016. Notification via email will occur by mid-January 2017.

All registered nurse applicants must be either an ANA member OR a member of one of ANA's Premier Organizational Affiliates (American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Association of periOperative Registered Nurses).
