U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Quality Summit to Streamline and Improve Quality Programs across Government
ANA Nomination One-Pager | July 23, 2019
Action Requested: ANA is seeking individuals with knowledge of quality improvement initiatives to represent the association at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Quality Summit in late August or early September, 2019 and once per quarter thereafter for one year.
Qualifications: The nominee will be an ANA member and will be highly experienced in the area of HHS quality programs and in the quality space in general. The nominee will have ideally implemented initiatives related to these quality programs and demonstrated success at improving quality as well as reducing administrative burden related to their implementation. Interested individuals should send a CV and a one-page cover letter highlighting qualifications and relevant experiences related to quality programs and value-based care models to Gregory Craig, ANA Health Policy Advisor (gregory.craig@ana.org) by close of business Friday, July 26, for consideration.
Overview: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will convene a Quality Summit which will bring together key industry stakeholders and government leaders to discuss how current quality programs administered by HHS can be further evaluated, adapted, and ultimately streamlined to deliver a value-based care model focused on improving outcomes for American patients. HHS quality programs, which include programs within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Indian Health Service (IHS), are designed to improve outcomes for program beneficiaries, reduce provider burden, and improve transparency through expanded public reporting of performance results. ANA’s interest in these quality programs includes the public reporting of ANA’s NQF-endorsed nurse staffing measures through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program, the implementation of the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), and other value-based care models that emphasize the role of the RN in care quality.
Time Commitment: Participants will be expected to attend, in person, a half-day long meeting once per quarter for the next year. Participants will be asked to gather information from their organizations as part of the effort. In total, we anticipate a commitment of approximately 10 hours / month by participants.
Reimbursement by ANA: If accepted, the individual would be responsible for all expenses, including but not limited to airfare, fuel, lodging, or meals.
Staffing by ANA: ANA staff will assist the nominee in the nomination process by submitting nomination materials. Should the ANA nominee be chosen, staff would assist in the preparation of the individual for each meeting associated with the Quality Summit.
