Evaluation of the Commonwealth's Entry Into the Nurse Licensure Compact
On Wednesday, 5/19/2021, the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission voted to approve their report and recommend to the legislature that Massachusetts join the Nurse Licensure Compact. The report cited the benefits for oversight of the nursing practice, the enhanced ability of Massachusetts providers to prepare during emergencies and periods of staffing challenges, and greater facilitation of telehealth. During the meeting, the Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders noted that the governor is supportive of adoption and had included the Compact in one of his previous health policy proposals.
