Ann Rogers is a Professor and Edith F. Honeycutt Chair in Nursing at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University. Sheis best known for her Staff Nurse Fatigue and Patient Safety Study. Since the study's initial publication in Health Affairs, she and her team have documented adverse effects of long nurse work hours on patient, nurse, and public safety in two other countries. In addition, her pioneering examination of the relationship between nurse work hours and patient safety has inspired other researchers to begin examining the impact of extended shifts and overtime on nosocomial infection rates in intensive care units, musculoskeletal injuries, sleep duration, sleepiness, burnout, and neuro-cognitive performance.
